The Lagos State University (LASU) has issued a stern warning against the unauthorised use of its campuses and facilities for content creation, citing concerns over inappropriate materials and potential damage to the institution’s reputation.

Recall that a viral video capturing some individuals dressed like bandits were shared across social media which cause uproar in the university community.

Reacting to the development, the university in a press statement released on Friday, December 12, 2025, said that it had observed a growing trend of students and other individuals using LASU premises to create digital content without approval.

According to the university, some of the materials produced are offensive, inappropriate, and inconsistent with LASU’s values as a centre of learning and character development.

While reaffirming its support for creativity and responsible self-expression, LASU stressed that the production of such content could misrepresent the institution and undermine its integrity.

To address the situation, the university announced that all individuals including students, staff, and members of the public must obtain prior approval before engaging in any cinematographic or audiovisual activities on any LASU campus.

Approval must be secured from the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR) located on the third floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building at the main campus in Ojo.

The directive covers a wide range of activities, including the recording of skits, vox pops, short films, promotional videos, and other audiovisual content within university premises, hostels, and associated facilities.

LASU also placed a ban on the use of drones within its environment without formal authorisation from the university’s Security Department, citing safety, privacy, and security concerns.

The statement, signed by the Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of CIPR, Mrs. Oluwayemis A. Thomas-Onashile, called on all stakeholders to cooperate with the new measures in order to uphold the dignity and reputation of the institution.
