By LASU Becomes First Nigerian University To Offer Doctorate Degree In Business and Public Administration
The Lagos State University on Saturday has launched Doctorate Degree programmes for Business Administration and Public Administration thereby becoming the first varsity in Nigeria to offer the higher degree in both fields.
The launching event which also served as the orientation for the first set of students admitted for both Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and Doctor of Public Administration (DPA) was held at the Resource Centre of the newly refurbished Faculty of Management Sciences, Main Campus, Ojo Lagos.
Speaking at the event, Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Joseph Olagunju, welcomed the freshly admitted Doctorate Degree students as he informed that the State varsity now occupies an enviable position for being the first institution of higher learning to commence the programmes. He also praised Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS) for blazing the trail as the first faculty as others, such as Education are also concluding plans for launching.
In his speech, Professor Olagunju gave a brief explanation on the difference between a Ph.D in Business and DBA as he stated that while the former is research based doctoral degree ideal for persons with interest in Academics while the latter (DBA) focuses on theoretical knowledge that can be applied to the practice of business and business management.
Present at the event were Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Elias Wahab who ably represented the Institution’s Vice Chancellor; the University Librarian, Dr Lai Adebayo; Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr Tajudeen Olumoko; MBA Coordinator, Professor Ibrahim Olateju; Dean of FMS, Professor Babatunde Yusuf. Also present were Departmental Heads and Coordinators of Academic Programmes in the Faculty.
