The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has vehemently denied the recurrent fake news suggesting that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has prohibited officials of the agency from apprehending erring motorists in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, refuted the false claims propagated through online platforms, asserting that there is no truth to the rumors. The statement was conveyed by Adebayo Taofiq, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department.
Oreagba emphasized that the misleading information, originating from unidentified individuals with malicious intent, has been circulating online since February 2020, despite repeated denials from LASTMA’s management.
In a stern warning, Oreagba urged residents, particularly motorists, to exercise caution and disregard such deceptive online reports that aim to sow chaos and mischief within society.
The statement released by Oreagba read as follows:
“We wish to categorically debunk the fake news circulating online, alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has placed a ban on LASTMA officials from apprehending motorists who violate the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018. This misinformation, created by faceless mischief makers, has been repeatedly discredited by LASTMA’s management. We implore all residents, especially motorists, to be discerning and reject these unfounded online reports, as they are designed to cause disorder and unrest in our society.”
