LASTMA And The Bad Eggs By Agoro Ibrahim

WHEN, recently , Governor Akinwunmi Ambode estimated the annual losses arising from the notorious traffic congestion in Lagos at N42 billion, he reminded stakeholders of the urgency of fixing a monstrous problem that has hampered the pace of development in Nigeria’ s smallest but richest state . Only a stronger response , robust and sustained law enforcement can untangle the traffic choke- hold on the emerging mega city’ …. PUNCH, May 3rd 2016

This is the main reason why the efforts of the Traffic Marshalls @ Eko LASTMA in Lagos State must be highly appreciated by the public.

Truly, there is no gainsaying in the submission that there are some bad eggs in the institutions and I bet you, you can’t do without these bad eggs in other establishments at all (be it public or private),it only seems that it is only the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority Officials that are operating in Lagos state, may be that is due to the fact that we LASTMA officials are the ones that people see on Lagos roads almost everyday except you decide not to come out of the four walls of your residence one day that you will not see the gallant men on Yellow working tirelessly on Lagos roads even on public holidays.

Naturally, the public are born enemies of Law enforcement officers most especially the law breaking citizens, they dislike us to the extent that some would even spit on you through the windows of their vehicles while discharging your duty where as some would appreciate you even if it is ordinary (well done officer), that’s normal! Because, we all look but see differently, the key is perception!

I understand the fact that some of us or our loved ones have had some bitter experience in the hands of some unprofessional LASTMA officers in one way or the other, yet, I will say you shouldn’t judge us with the name of our party (LASTMA), judge us with our individual candidacy (behaviour of the officer in question) because as we have the bad ones, so we have the good ones who are doing their job diligently and I’m very sure and optimistic that very soon, your perception would change for better on these so called men on yellow on Lagos roads and you would appreciate our impact on ensuring the free flow of traffic both day and night on Lagos roads.

Thanks to the current General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Wale Musa for his untiring efforts on restructuring of the institution and ongoing sanitization towards eliminating the bad eggs on the mission of giving Lastma a bad name. God bless you sir and the other entire staff of the institution.

As it can also be seen, H.E GOV. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Executive Governor of Lagos State is not relenting on expansion of roads, construction of bridges as well rail projects going on around the state towards ensuring efficiency in the state’s transport system . In the same vein, I’m using the opportunity to call on His Excellency to please improve our working condition in terms of remuneration and a good insurance policy for our officials. We don’t go on holidays because roads neither sleep nor go on holidays.

Have a wonderful celebration and compliment of the season to the people of Lagos.

    Excellent write up.
Everyday of my life, I always pray to meet the right people. Same goes for everyone of us, let try the “good” uniform men and our perception will change abut them. As for the bad eggs, their days are numbered.
God bless the LASTMA officer Agoro for this write up.
    God bless LASTMA,Lagos,Nigeria!

Well done my honourable officer. Finding bad eggs among good ones is a tradition which every institution must ruthlessly fight. It’s only when this is achieved that the true colours of these institutions will be appreciated. It’s true that not all officers are corrupt. What we have to understand is that people naturally generalize bad examples but seldom do same for good ones.
Always remember that you hold your post in trust. Even if no man appreciates your wonderful works, be rest assured that Almighty Allah does. I know He will definitely reward you.
