LASEMA Rescues Eight, Two Still Trapped in Collapsed Building on Lagos Island

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) successfully rescued eight individuals from the remains of a collapsed building on Iga Idunganran Street in Lagos Island, according to a statement posted on The Lagos State Government X page on Thursday, May 30.

On that same day, panic ensued among residents and observers as a residential structure collapsed.

In a statement by LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency swiftly responded to distress calls in the early hours of Thursday.

“A total of 10 people were trapped under the building. Eight of them – seven adult males and one female – have been rescued and treated by the Pre-Hospital Care Unit of the Agency before they were transferred to the Iga Idunganran Primary Health Care Centre for further medical treatment,” the statement read.

While emphasizing ongoing operations to rescue the remaining two victims, Oke-Osanyintolu highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Shark team, LRU Paramedics, LASBCA officials, LNSC officials, LASPPPA officials, LASAMBUS crew, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and Nigeria Police Force, who are still on-site conducting search and rescue operations.
