The popular Youth Against Violence Accord (YAVA) organised by the #NotTooYoungToRun team Lagos, Ikorodu chapter gained another ground on Saturday 6th January 2019 when the candidate and flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for the Ikorodu Constituency 1 seat at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Mukaila Ajagun Lamina signed the dotted lines of the peace accord.
The meeting which started at exactly 1:55pm at the campaign office of the aspirant, had in attendance key officials of the team who gave a brief on the significance of the peace accord which is to ensure peace at the polls and at the same time announced January 12th 2019 as the date for the Lagos State house of Assembly aspirant debate organised by the group and concerned community stakeholders.
Lamina in response to the gesture emphasised the need to have a peaceful election and ensured that he stands for peace as he asked the team to continue in the pursue to eradicate electoral violence.
While explaining the rationale behind signing the pact apart from redefining the perception of people in Ikorodu, Lamina reiterated that the purpose of signing the document was to ensure the candidates and their followers are cautious and not heat up the polity.
On other measure adopted to ensure a peaceful poll, the group explained to the political hopeful that the movement was working with the security bodies, INEC officials, press and leaders of various organisation and groups to ensure peace during the election.
While explaining some of the benefits of signing the document, the group informed Lamina that due to signing the document, in any case of violence allegation against the candidate and he proves not guilty, he would be fully supported by the movement.
The meeting also featured the recommendation that the YAVA is also signed among major stakeholders in the public glare of their supporters.
The press was also urged to ensure the news goes beyond borders and also stated that the candidates also have the job to enlighten their supporters more on the importance of maintaining peace.
To draw the curtain to the meeting, Lamina took out time to highlights his major plans for Ikorodu Constituency 1 if elected which cut across transportation and empowerment programmes.
“I will work tirelessly to improve our transportation system by ensuring the mega ferry project is looked into and completed. Decentralizing the operation of the BRT to bring about more buses to convey the people of Ikorodu will also be given attention.”
“I will further embark on a full empowerment program that involves training our artisans and funding them appropriately.” He vowed.
one will recall that the peace deal was also recently signed by the majority leader, Lagos state house of Assembly, Hon. S.O.B Agunbiade who is also a major contender with Lamina.
