LAMINA ENGAGES IKORODU YOUTHS, VOWS TO DELIVER DIFFERENCE IN LEGISLATIVE REPRESENTATION
As part of his effort in engaging prospective electorates and intimating them of his #BetterThingsToCome mantra, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for the forthcoming March 2nd election into the Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency 1, Hon. Mukaila Ajagun Lamina popularly known as Lamina has once again revealed his plans to the people of Ikorodu Constituency 1 under the aegis of the Ikorodu Ambassadors Group.
Lamina Vows To Empower Ikorodu Youths, Warns Against Electoral Violence
Lamina highlighted his legislative agenda yesterday, Sunday February 3rd 2019 to the group via an online engagement where he expressed that his aspiration to run for a position in the hollowed chambers of the state’s legislative arm was borne out of the sole need to bring a difference to legislative representation in Ikorodu, one that puts the people of Ikorodu first.
The interactive session featured questions from members of the group, which the legislative hopeful took time to answer.
When asked on what he intend to do differently as a lawmaker, Lamina explained that there is need for Ikorodu to experience true pro-people representation, a difference on how the transportation system runs, a difference in empowering youth and women economically, difference on the management of public education, difference in the health system and adequate protection of lives and properties.
Still hammering on the kind of legislation he is bringing on-board, Lamina further expressed that:
I intend to use my legislative blueprint to engage every sector that deals with the daily living of Ikorodu people. We are known to be a people blessed with human resources that can be harnessed to achieve more for our youths and residents at large.
In the past 12 years we have witnessed less of a pro-people representation in Ikorodu.
Despite that Ikorodu Division is one of the 5 Division making up Lagos State, we are not considered for priority appointments within the state, this I would through legislation ensure is make a constitutional issue whereby there would be statutory number of commissioners/ SA etc that can be allocated to each division
On the clamour for better representation, Lamina described what is presently obtainable in the Constituency below expectation and mere political fraternity devoid of real social and sustainable economic empowerment while he promised true legislation to make sure that Ikorodu Division is one of the 5 Divisions that is considered for priority appointment thereby making a case for equal and fair executive appointments in distribution of political appointments.
LAHA 2019: Lamina Receives Massive Support At Flag off, Promises Better Representation
While enlightening the audience on the duties of a legislator, the aspirant highlighted some of the bills he will propose if given the people’s mandate which will span across sectors that will make life better for all in the Constituency.
Lamina highlighted such bills thus:
Education: A bill to review vocational schools in Lagos is paramount. Going by the rampant employment issues and lack of capital to startup businesses
Lagos state Emergency and Fire brigade law. I intend to sponsor a bill to increase the number of Fire brigade stations in Ikorodu.
Bills to amend the public transportation system under the PPP arrangement. The near monopoly of almost all public sector services has shown is not the right solution for Lagos state. Hence the need to broaden the number of operators on the BRT corridor.
Establish a well-structured waterways PPP arrangement so that standard and safe ferry infrastructure is put in place.
A forward thinking legislation to ensure Lagos state operates a mix transportation system comprising or Road, waterways, small trains and cabins through a well supervised, controlled and managed system.
A bill to setup a startup hub for youths across the state to improve the economic viability of the State will be pursued.
A bill to ensure full local government autonomy would be a priority bill to me. The current system where the State controls all the revenues accruing to LGA needs to be looked into.
Mukaila Promises to Empower Youths, Women, Vulnerable if Elected
When asked on how he intends to change some of the provisions in the constitution particularly on local government autonomy, Lamina has this to say:
The way around it is to work with Lagos State Federal Reps/ Senators to be more engaging in pushing for Local Government Autonomy. It was considered during the last amendment but Lagos State Federal Lawmakers were relatively indifferent for obvious reasons. The narrative needs to change because without autonomy, good governance and sustainable welfare policies will be denied to the people at local government levels.
On the issue of the current crisis in the State House of Assembly, Lamina described it as the aftermath of having a near single party structure that hinders robust debate on issues. He call on all to ensure that a broad view is enabled come March 2nd by voting for a different party which he represents.
The online interactive section is coming few days after his engagement with the Muslim community in the division.
