Lamentations As Fire Consumes Properties Worth Millions In Katangowa Market

A cross-section of traders at the famous Katangowa Market returned on Monday to meet their shops in ashes as an early morning inferno razed through the market.

Properties worth millions of naira were not spared by the raging fire which gutted part of the Katangowa Market, Super bus stop in Agbado-Okeodo, Local Council Development Area, along Lagos Abeokuta Expressway, Lagos.

The fire which started at exactly 3:15 a.m claimed no life but did not spare the entire stretch of shops where fairly used clothes are being sold, adjacent to the Central Mosque in the market.

The fire incident came barely 24 hours after the Yoruba and Hausa traders were involved in a rift over minor misunderstanding yesterday in this same area. Fortunately too, the rift claimed no life but left one severely injured.
However, the cause of the fire outbreak was yet to be ascertained at press time.

Report has it that the fast-wide-spreading fire was gaged by the prompt intervention by the emergency response team comprising of men of the Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASTMA, Policemen, and traders.

The Divisional Police Officer of Oke-Odo, led officers of the division, assisted by the market Chief Security Officer and some committee members to secure lives and properties from miscreants and opportunists from looting affected shops.
The fire had been put under control at press time by firemen, while some grieving traders were seen trying to salvage their clothes form the fire.
