Lagos Transport Fare Rebate Ends: LAMATA Announces Return To Pre-August Rates

In a significant development for commuters across Lagos, the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has officially declared the conclusion of the 50% transport fare rebate that has been in effect since August 2, 2023.

This rebate, initially announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, aimed to alleviate the financial burden on passengers navigating the bustling city.

However, the LAMATA disclosed, through their X (twitter) handle, that transport fare would return to status quo.

As the sun sets this Sunday, so too will the discounted fares that have eased the daily commute for millions of Lagosians.

The 50% reduction in transport costs within the regulated transport system will cease to apply, signaling a return to the pre-August rates.

The public is therefore urged to adjust and make amendments.

LAMATA, established in 2002 during the tenure of then-Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been at the forefront of revolutionizing Lagos’ transportation landscape.
