Lagos State Remands Sir K And Others In Prison Over Land Grabbing

The Lagos State Government on Friday presented a suspected notorious land grabber, Kamorudeen Lamina popularly called Sir K Oluwo and six others before a Special Offences Court, Oshodi, Lagos.

It will be recalled that Lamina was on Thursday arrested by the Special Anti-Land Grabbing Taskforce of the State after several months of evading the authorities.

Lamina was arraigned on charges bothering on forceful dispossession of residents from legitimate rights on ownership of lands and properties.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode earlier in terms year had signed into law a special Court set aside to sit on land grabbing related cases, a menace that was already taking over the State.

All the seven suspects pleaded not guilty to the six charges read to them in yhe Court and they were granted bail after their legal team argued that their offences were bailable ones.

Granting them bail, Magistrate Lateef Owolabi placed each defendants on a N1m and two sureties in like sum. The condition attached included that one of the sureties must be a land owner in Lagos and the other a civil servant not below grade level 15. Both sureties must have three years tax clearance certificates and also present themselves with identity cards issued by the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).

Also, each defendants were asked to deposit N150,000 each with the Court as they are to be remanded in Badagry prison till all bail conditions are met.

After the sitting, Chairman of the Lagos State Anti-Land Geabbing Task Force, Mr Jide Bakare stated that the arrest and immediate arraignment of persons like Sir K Oluwo surebsends a message to others who are still on the run and avail them opportunity to desist from such act.

The case was has been adjourned till July 13th.
