Lagos State Governor Cancels Work-From-Home Policy for Civil Servants

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the cancellation of the work-from-home policy for civil servants, directing all state workers to return to their offices and resume the regular Monday to Friday work schedule.
The new directive was communicated in a circular issued by the office of the Head of Service (HoS) on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
This decision marks the end of the flexible working arrangement introduced in February 2024, which allowed some categories of staff, particularly junior workers, to work from home for part of the week. Under the previous system, junior staff were expected to come into the office for only two days a week, while senior staff maintained a full in-office schedule.
The flexible policy was introduced to help alleviate the economic hardships faced by workers following the petrol subsidy removal by the Federal Government.
However, with the recent implementation of the new minimum wage in Lagos State, Governor Sanwo-Olu has opted to reinstate the full work schedule.
The new policy, which will take effect from March 31, 2025, mandates that all workers return to their regular office duties without the option of working remotely.
The circular read in part: “Further to the implementation of the New Minimum Wage in the State Public Service and other commendable measures put in place by this administration to improve the welfare and well-being of Public Servants in Lagos State, it is hereby notified for general information that Mr Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has approved the cancellation of the work from home initiative in the Lagos State Public Service.
“To this end, cancellation of the work-from-home initiative which had been in place since February 2024 will take effect from 31st March 2025.”
