The Lagos State government  have uncovered a disturbing case of food adulteration involving the production of contaminated yam flour, commonly known as Elubo Isu.

The discovery was made following credible intelligence received from the Chairman of the Elubo Sellers Association, prompting swift enforcement action.

According to a statement posted by Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, some unscrupulous traders had been mixing harmful coloring agents with spoiled yam flour to produce toxic *Elubo Isu*, which was then sold to unsuspecting consumers in the market.

Acting on the tip-off, the Lagos State Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) enforcement team conducted a raid that led to the arrest of one Mrs. Kehinde Raji.

She was reportedly caught in the act of engaging in the illegal adulteration process.

Wahab commended the vigilance of the market leadership, saying, “We commend the market leadership for bringing this critical public health issue to our attention.”

Preliminary reports have confirmed that several consumers have already suffered health complications as a result of consuming the adulterated product.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the number of affected individuals but have pledged to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure those responsible face the full weight of the law.

Residents have been urged to be cautious and report any suspicious food products or vendors to the appropriate authorities.

The state government is expected to ramp up market surveillance to prevent further endangerment of public health.
