Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has hinted at a possible run for either the Senate or governorship in 2027, saying his next political move will depend on the decision of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Television Continental (TVC) on Thursday, Obasa clarified earlier remarks about his political future, stressing that while every politician harbors ambition, final decisions must be guided by party leadership.

“Every politician has ambitions, but you get to a stage where you cannot determine what comes next. If you believe in the party structure, you understand that it’s about consultation, consensus, and the leadership’s direction,” he said.

Pressed on whether he might contest again for a fifth term in the Assembly, Obasa responded, “Not really,” signaling that his attention may be shifting toward higher political office.

Obasa, who recently survived a leadership tussle that briefly unseated him as Speaker before his reinstatement, has been a dominant force in Lagos politics since 2015. Representing Agege Constituency 1, he has led the Assembly for nearly a decade and remains a key power broker within the APC.

His comments come as speculation grows over who may succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose second term ends in 2027.
