LAGOS SCHOOL COLLAPSE UPDATE: SEVERAL CASUALTIES RECORDED

Several school pupils are feared killed following the collapse of Baden School in Lagos Island.
The school which is situated at Itafaji Street, near Adeniji Adele was said to have caved in around 10:20am this morning.

The cause of the collapse was yet to be ascertained but the eyewitness said emergency responders have moved to the scene and were evacuating trapped victims.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Health, Titi Gonclaves, who just spoke to newsmen at the Lagos Island General Hospital.
She said 20 casualties have been brought in so far and they are being attended to.
She, however, said 5 have been transferred to other hospitals.
In his reaction, the Lagos State governor, Akinwumi Ambode has said that buildings within the vicinity of the collapsed building at Ita-Faji, on Lagos Island, would be subjected to integrity tests.
He said that if any of the buildings failed the integrity test, it would be demolished.
The Governor, also reveled that from the briefing he got from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency boss, 25 bodies have been rescued so far.
However, the Rapid Response Squad while breaking the news of the tragic incident has assured families of the trapped victims that sophisticated equipment are currently deployed to the scene to aid timely rescue and evaluation.
