The Police Service Commission (PSC) has removed Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale as the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State and appointed Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, a former Force Public Relations Officer, as his replacement.
The announcement, made on Monday, comes amid the ongoing leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly, where security operatives sealed off the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the Clerk.
Jimoh, who hails from Kwara State, was previously the Commissioner of Police at the Ports Authority, Eastern Ports. He has also served in various high-ranking roles, including as Deputy Commissioner at the Airport Police, Deputy Commissioner of Finance and Administration, and Deputy Commissioner of General Investigation.
Although the PSC did not explicitly link the leadership change to the Assembly crisis, the removal of CP Olawale comes just hours after heavily armed DSS and police operatives stormed the Lagos Assembly complex.
The crisis in the Assembly began following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed while on an official trip abroad. Obasa has since challenged the impeachment in court, arguing that due process was not followed.
Meanwhile, Speaker Meranda, who replaced Obasa, has continued to receive the backing of 32 out of 40 lawmakers in the House, despite reports of internal opposition.
The Lagos State High Court is expected to make a ruling on the impeachment dispute in the coming days, while the appointment of CP Jimoh signals a possible shift in security strategy amid the ongoing power struggle.
