The Lagos State Police Command have announced the arrest of two commercial motorcycle riders that participated in the mob action against the Zonal Commander of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Mr Olatunji Bakare.
The two motorcyclists were paraded by the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.
Abubakar Ibrahim,25 and Usman Ahmad,23 were the only two identified so far after the Police were tipped to use the viral video of the mob action to trace and arrest those who carried out the dastardly act.
The State Government through the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Adeniji Kazeem had petitioned the State Police Command to fish out those that killed the State official who was carrying out his official assignment when he was killed.
Recall that Zonal Commander of LASTMA, Bakare was on December 15, 2016 killed by a mob who retaliated the death of one of them who was hit by the van of the traffic management authority while it was moving there to arrest traffic offenders.
Bakare who led the team was soon pounced on by motorists and area boys in the Liverpool area of Apapa.
CP Owoseni said, “Having analysed the video very well, two suspects, who have been identified postively, having matched the recording with their faces, have been arrested.
“We will use them to get to others that took part in the gory act. We will do everything that needs to be done in terms of subjecting the report to forensic interpretation to ensure that innocent people are not made to suffer.”
