By Reports reaching BlackBox Nigeria have it that popular Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele is set to be announced as the running mate of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Olajide Adediran better known as ‘Jandor’.
This follows weeks of speculations that the opposition party in Nigeria’s commercial capital has chosen the award-winning actress to run alongside Jandor who is going head to head with the incumbent, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at next year’s general elections.
Akindele who appears unfazed despite her recent marriage crash has, however, remained silent on this development.
Insiders tell BlackBox Nigeria that she is waiting for an official announcement before she makes a social media appearance about her new role as a major political force in the state.
The movie star, who hails from the Ikorodu area of the state, is from Lagos East senatorial district, just as the incumbent deputy governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat who however represents Epe.
Over the years, Ikorodu stakeholders have lamented being left out in top positions of the state which might have inspired Adediran and PDP’s choice of the actress who is reported to also be from a royal family in the ancient town.
Another top chieftain of the party who ran on the party’s ticket during the senatorial rerun in the state after the demise of an incumbent two year ago, also gave a cryptic suggestion that Funke Akindele has been chosen as the running mate.
