Lagos NYCN chapter unveils programme to commemorate 2020 International Youth Day

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Saturday, hinted on its programmes to commemorate the 2020 international youth day.

The International Youth Day, observed on the 12th of August each year and designated by the United Nations, is aimed at drawing attention to a given set of cultural and social issues surrounding youths globally.

The council’s Lagos chairman, Lekan Biliamin Oba, who gave the theme for this year’s International Youth day as “Youth Engagement for Global Action”, explained that it seeks to highlight the ways and approach in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global level enriches national and multilateral institutions and process.

Lekan further stated that the Lagos chapter of the council is keyed to make the 2020 International Youth Day more impactful by engaging the young citizens for global action.

The chairman gave four highlighted events in the commemoration of the 2020 International Youth Day as:

1. My COVID19 Impact Story
10th – 15th August, 2020

2. Donation of Nose Masks
Date – 20th – 23rd August, 2020
Venue – Senatorial District tour

Date – 13th August, 2020

4. COVID19 Need2Know Webinar
Date – 13th August, 2020

My COVID19 Impact Story

“NYCN Lagos is changing the narratives of this year’s International Youth Day by identifying and celebrating young people that have helped their communities curb the spread of CoronaVirus.

“The efforts of youths between the ages of 18-35 will be received via the council’s official email and will be shared on the NYCN YouTube Channel, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram pages with the hashtag #covid19impactstory.

“The experience and pictorial/video shared will go through in-house Jury and Public jury to decide the most laudable COVID19 Impact project.

“However, we will have 3 winners to split the cash prize which will be expended on projects in their communities.” Mr. Lekan said.

The chairman added that 5000 nose masks will be donated to the 3 senatorial district in Lagos State as an alignment to the #MaskUpLagos policy by the Lagos government.

Lekan also announced the launching of a website that will showcase youth activities in Lagos State, as a webinar that will feature health professionals to discuss the dangers and best approach to curb the spread of the virus among our teeming Youths has also been designed by the chairman for IYD2020.
