The Management of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency (LNSA) has penalised the officers who assaulted an Uber driver, Mr Adedotun Clement during the ENDSARS anniversary demonstration on Wednesday.
This development was contained in a statement signed by the General Manager of LNSA, Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan
The sanction of the identified officers comes after the conduct of the orderly room trial of the former who were captured in the viral videos on social media, with the supervising officers present at venue.
Both officers and the supervising officers were charged with disreputable conduct for assaulting a member of the public.
According to the LNSA’s Handbook Article E(II)&(iii), O (iv) and N(x), the use of pepper spray is not a standard issue kit for its officers coupled with their general unruly behaviours capable of obstructing public peace.
The statement revealed that during the over 4 hours sitting of the panel, the erring officers were found guilty of the charges against them as the two officers who assaulted Mr Adedotun were publicly de-kitted and suspended from the Agency for 2 months.
The panel further stated that the two officers are to be redeployed to another LNSA command for behavioural evaluation and further reprimand.
Similarly, the supervising officers in charge of the the area were suspended with immediate effect, for a month while their deputies are to act in their stead until further notice.
The agency, however, used the opportunity to tender an unreserved apology to the general public and to the assault victim, Mr Clement Adedotun for the unruly behaviour of the officers at the event.
Meanwhile, the General Manager has restated the commitment of the Lagos State Government to securing the lives and properties of the people of Lagos State.
