The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation after an ambulance assigned to the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon was captured on video striking an individual during the race held on Saturday.

The incident occurred near the finishing line of the marathon, parts of which saw thousands of runners across the city.

A video shared on social media showed the ambulance moving behind runners along the route before appearing to hit someone.

The identity of the person affected and their exact condition immediately after the incident remain unclear, and it is not yet confirmed whether the individual was a participant, a supporter, or a bystander.

In response, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said authorities were informed of the situation and took quick action.

Officials assessed the individual at the scene and transferred them to a public health facility, where they were reported to be stable and receiving care.

Medical teams and race organisers are cooperating with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and the Sports Commission as part of the inquiry.

Officials have acknowledged public concern over the video and pledged a full review to ensure safety protocols were followed.
