Residents across Lagos East Senatorial District have commended Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru following the distribution of end-of-year food packs to households across the district.
The outreach, carried out across the 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos East, reached 12,000 households in its latest phase.
Organisers said the initiative has so far supported about 84,000 households since it was launched.
The food packs, which contained staple items such as rice and garri, were distributed to vulnerable members of the community, including the elderly, widows, persons living with disabilities, women and unemployed youths.
Beneficiaries described the intervention as timely, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges.
According to details from the senator’s office, beneficiaries were selected through a community-based nomination process designed to ensure fairness and transparency.
Residents submitted nominations via an online platform, after which beneficiaries were randomly shortlisted across all 16 LGAs and LCDAs in the district.
Each food pack was branded with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda alongside Senator Abiru’s “#DoingGood” initiative, aligning the programme with the federal government’s focus on food security, social protection and inclusive welfare.
In addition to the household food distribution, cows were also provided to selected traditional rulers and party leaders to support festive celebrations across communities in Lagos East.
