Lagos Court Sentence Sodiq Adetayo To 21 Years Imprisonment For Robbery Of Handbag

A young man identified as Sodiq Adetayo has been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of stealing a handbag from a teacher under Anthony bridge, Lagos.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the robbery incident occured sometimes in February 2015, since which the suspect has been in detention.

The judgement was passed by Justice Olwatoyin Ipaye.

Justice Ipaye stated that the Police were unable to establish if Adetayo was armed during the robbery, but he was only found guilty of the act.

BBN also gathered that the handbag which was snatched from the victim, a school teacher contained her phone, some cash and other personal belongings.

He also stated that the poor background of the suspect was behind his act. He however sentenced him to 21 years imprisonment.

“I am satisfied that the prosecution has proven the charge of robbery beyond reasonable doubt.

“I find you, Sodiq Adetayo, guilty of one count of robbery contrary to Section 294 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

“Undoubtedly, the convict was a victim of his poor background; however, resorting to crime is not the way out.

“I hereby sentence you to 21 years imprisonment,” the judge said.
