The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has dismissed speculations linking him to the 2027 governorship race in Lagos State.

On Tuesday, Dokun Olumofin, a self-acclaimed political Strategist curates a 9-Men list of future contender for the highly coveted seat of the Lagos State government.

The list which includes the current Chief of Staff to president Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila; the commissioner for environment and water resources for Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab; Senator Representing Lagos East at the Senate, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, Seyi Tinubu and others, was created to show potential holder of the office of government of Lagos State.

However, Wahab stated categorically that he is not interested in any political ambition at this time.

Wahab said, while he appreciated being mentioned alongside prominent individuals in a circulated list of potential contenders, he remains solely focused on his current role as commissioner and has no intention of being distracted by political projections.

“While I appreciate your consideration for my name to be included with these great men, I will like to request that you remove me from the list,” Wahab stated.

“As the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, I would like to focus on the job at hand and not be distracted.”

He urged that his name be withdrawn from any such speculative mentions, emphasizing that his commitment is to deliver on the mandate given to him by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the people of Lagos State.

“I do hope this removal will be effected as soon as possible. Thank you,” he added.

Wahab’s firm stance has been interpreted by political observers as a signal of professionalism and dedication to governance, at a time when speculations around the 2027 elections are beginning to build.

His tenure has so far been marked by active environmental reforms and the enforcement of sanitation laws across the state changing the narrative of “Lagos is Smelling”.
