Lagos CJ, Oke Frees Four Teenagers From Badagry Prisons
The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Opeyemi Oke on Thursday granted freedom to four inmates of the Badagry prisons, in a bid to de-congest prisons in the State.
The four inmates who were released were teenagers. It was learnt that nine inmates were earlier listed to be freed, but the remaining five were returned to face charges due to the gravity of their offences.
Justice Oke in her speech advised the pardoned inmates to “go and sin no more”. She added that being without job was not enough for them to be found wanting in crimes.
She also released some other inmates who had been awaiting trials for many years. She disclosed that the gesture was aimed at reducing congestion at the prisons around the State.
Oke praised Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the recent completion and commissioning of a new Magistrate Court in Badagry, which according to her would further aid quick dispensation of justice in the State.
