As Lagosians count down to this weekend’s Local Government elections, the Lagos State House of Assembly has hurriedly amended the electoral law.
In a surprising development, the Assembly under the leadership of the speaker, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd reading to amend the electoral law.

BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the laws which have also been hurriedly sent to Govenor Ambode for his speedy accent was amended to allow a candidate withdraw from the race 3 days to the election. The second part allows a political party withdraw and substitute a candidate for another 3 days to the election.
Party Withdrawal
A political party can withdraw and substitute candidate not later than three (3) days to LASIEC verification.
Candidate withdrawal
Any candidate can withdraw from contesting not later than three (3) days to the election by personally taking a letter of withdrawal to the state secretary of the party involved and the secretary must personally take the letter to LASIEC not later than 12noon, three (3) days to the election.
BlackBox Nigeria gathered that the hasty amendment might not be unconnected to the rescheduled primary election conducted in Odi-Olowo LCDA following several political crisis in the area.
It is however uncertain in Governor Akinwumi Ambode accented to the amendment before the end of Tuesday.
