By The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, Lanre Sanusi has denied that he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged fraud.
An earlier report by SaharaReporters had claimed that Sanusi was nabbed by the anti-graft agency following a petition against him by a logistics company, 4runner Limited.
The politician was also said to have allegedly diverted COVID-19 materials, hand sanitisers and face masks worth millions of dollars from Dallas City Government Hospital in the United States.
Responding to the claims when contacted, the APC candidate said that the report had no merit and urged members of the public to disregard it.
“I wasn’t arrested, neither was I invited by the EFCC for fraud. The report is, at best, a figment of the writer’s imagination,” he told BlackBox Nigeria.
Sanusi, however, stated that the report was the handiwork of political detractors bent on disparaging his image, accusing a former Chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Ayodele Adewale — who also contested for the APC ticket in the constituency — of being behind the story.
“I find it amusing that people would go this extreme just to stain my person. It is a terrible style of playing politics. I encourage Ayo Adewale to accept the result of the primary in good faith, instead of resorting to unholy ways of pulling me down,” he said.
“I recall that he had earlier written a petition to the leadership of the Lagos APC seeking my disqualification. The party chose to ignore him because he made ridiculous claims.”
He added that a statement would be issued in due time to properly address the issue.
