The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of one of its newly re-elected officials, assistant publicity secretary, Karamo Yesiru, barely 24 hours after the party’s state congress.
He died at the age of 65.
Yesiro, who had just been returned as the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the Lagos chapter of the party, died shortly after the congress where he was re-elected alongside other members of the State Executive Council.
He had previously served as a two time chairman of Ibeju-lekki LCDA and has held strategic position within the state party structure.
The party confirmed the development in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, describing the incident as shocking and deeply painful.
According to the statement, Yesiro passed away shortly after being entrusted again with the responsibility of serving in the party’s leadership.
“Yesiro’s demise is a tragic loss to the party,” Oladejo said, noting that the late politician had been expected to take part in the formal inauguration of the newly elected state executives at the party secretariat.
The late APC chieftain had emerged from the Lagos APC State Congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Onikan, where party delegates returned several officials, including the state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, for another term in office.
Party members and supporters have since expressed condolences, describing Yesiro as a loyal grassroots mobiliser who contributed significantly to the party’s communication and organisational efforts in Lagos.
The cause of his death was not immediately disclosed as of the time of reporting.
His passing comes as the Lagos chapter of the APC begins a new leadership cycle following the recently concluded state congress.
