LagFerry Boat Catches Fire in Lagos, Four Passengers Injured

A LagFerry boat, Igbega Eko, caught fire on Thursday morning while en route to Victoria Island, injuring four passengers.

The incident occurred around 6:45 AM at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu.

According to eyewitnesses, a loud bang was heard before the vessel was engulfed in flames, forcing passengers to scramble for safety.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) confirmed that four passengers sustained minor injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are underway. LASWA stated that its emergency response team swiftly mobilized to the scene, working in close coordination with LAGFERRY, boat operators, and first responders to manage the situation effectively.

In a statement, LASWA assured the public that all safety protocols remain intact and ferry operations are proceeding as scheduled.

The agency encouraged all passengers to stay calm and adhere to safety guidelines while enjoying the waterways.

The incident has raised concerns about safety on Lagos waterways, but LASWA has committed to implementing any necessary recommendations to enhance fire prevention measures throughout the Lagos waterways.
