Kosoko Family To Mark 151st Anniversary Of King Kosoko’s Passing With Prayers, Feast

 

 

The King Kosoko Royal Family and Oloja Chieftaincy Family of Lagos, home and abroad, will roll out drums to celebrate the anniversary of the 151 years passing of the revered former King and Oloja of Lagos, Oba Kosoko.

 

This year’s celebration is themed, “The Reminiscence”, and it is scheduled to hold on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at the historic King Kosoko Palace/Memorial Museum, Ereko, Lagos.

 

In a statement by the Consultant on Media and Publicity to the Oloja of Lagos – elect, Prince Abiola Olojo – Kosoko, the celebration will be marked with Traditional, Christian and Muslim prayers. The general public are, hereby, invited to the celebration.

 

Late Oba Kosoko passed on, on April 15, 1872, and was buried on April 25, 1872. He reigned between 1845 and 1851 as Oba of Lagos, and later became the Oloja of Lagos, after returning from Epe.

 

The late Oba Kosoko is known for its military nature, economic acumen and leadership. The history of Lagos will never be complete without mentioning his name, particularly for the economic prosperity of ‘Eko’ (Lagos Island) and the importance he brought to the stool of Lagos.

 

The celebration kicks off on Saturday at 7am with traditional prayers at the King Kosoko palace.

 

This will be followed by the Christian Thanksgiving prayers at 12noon.

 

The Muslim Fidau prayers, which will commence at 4.30pm, will be anchored by the League of Imams in Ereko and Olowogbowo, while the Muslim faithful at the programme and Ereko area will be provided with meals to break their fast.

 

Moreso, guests will have the opportunity to tour the renovated King Kosoko palace and King Koskoko Museum.
