A fresh controversy has erupted within the Kosoko royal family following the recent nomination of an Oloja of Lagos-elect, a process that has continued to divide opinion among key stakeholders.

Prince Ajibade Kosoko, one member of the Kosoko family has accused the Oba of Lagos, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rilwan Akinolu, of deliberately stalling the nomination process.

According to the family member, Oba Akiolu allegedly rejected the candidacy of Abiola Kosoko and directed the family to present a different nominee, a request the family insists is unacceptable.

“Oba Akiolu has been the one delaying us for so long. He told us to produce another Oloja-elect because he does not want Abiola Kosoko, which is not possible,” the family member said.

The statement suggests that tensions between the palace and the Kosoko lineage may have deepened, raising questions about the influence of the Oba of Lagos in the traditionally family-driven selection process.

The family member also hinted that unresolved issues remain beneath the surface, warning that more revelations could emerge as events unfold.

While the nomination has also brought veteran actor Jide Kosoko into the spotlight, his emergence as a contender has drawn sharp criticism from within the family. The family member questioned his involvement, accusing him of disrupting what they described as years of internal unity.

“Who is Jide Kosoko to suddenly come and disorganise a family that has been united for years?” the statement added.

The dispute has exposed growing cracks within one of Lagos’ most prominent royal families and has sparked wider debate over legitimacy, tradition, and authority in the selection of the Oloja of Lagos.
