The Kogi State Police Command has arrested a 21 year old housewife, Maryam Muntari, for allegedly stabbing her neighbour, Ahmed Isah, popularly known as Kalo, to death following an alleged attempted rape incident in Idoji-Okene community, Okene Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP William Aya, confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the tragic event occurred around 5:30 a.m. at the victim’s residence in Idoji quarters.
According to the police, preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased, identified as Ahmed Isah (Kalo), was found dead with a deep stab wound to the neck in his room. “The suspect has been arrested, and investigation is ongoing while the corpse has been taken to the Reference Hospital for autopsy,” CSP Aya stated.
Community sources disclosed that the suspect, Maryam Muntari, is a nursing mother and wife of a man who had been a long time neighbour and political acquaintance of the deceased.
It was gathered that on the morning of the incident, Kalo met Maryam at a water fetching point and asked her to help carry a jerrycan of water to his house, which she accepted. Upon reaching his residence, he allegedly locked the main door to his room while she was dropping the water and attempted to assault her.
Maryam was said to have struggled with him, overpowered him, and used a knife to stab him in the neck in self defence. He reportedly died on the spot.
Police operatives later arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody. The Command confirmed that investigations are still ongoing to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited at the Reference Hospital Mortuary, Okene, for autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
