Victor Osimhen’s first-half brace led the Super Eagles to a 2-0 victory over Rwanda in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C encounter.

This win not only marks Nigeria’s first victory in the World Cup qualifier series but also revives their chances of qualification.

Osimhen’s goals, his 24th and 25th for Nigeria, came in the 11th minute and just before halftime. The first goal was a result of Ademola Lookman’s free-kick, which Osimhen slotted home at the back post.

The second goal showcased Osimhen’s skill as he ran into the box and lifted a chipped finish over Rwanda’s goalkeeper.

The Super Eagles’ attacking lineup, featuring Osimhen, Lookman, Moses Simon, and Samuel Chukwueze, supported by Alex Iwobi, paid early dividends.

Despite Rwanda’s efforts to reduce the deficit in the second half, Nigeria’s defense held strong, securing the win.

This victory marks Eric Chelle’s first win as Nigeria’s coach and the Super Eagles’ first-ever win away at Rwanda.

Nigeria moves to fourth position in Group C with six points from five matches and will face Zimbabwe on March 25.
