Grammy-nominated artist Yemi Eberechi Alade, popularly known as Yemi Alade, has called out Nigerian radio station Cool FM for allegedly removing her songs from its playlist following her absence from an event.
Taking to her official X (formerly Twitter) account, the “Johnny” crooner expressed her frustration, stating: “My God, BIG PASS YOUR WHOLE station @cloutafrica @CoolFMNigeria, keep on forming gatekeepers and taking my songs down. NA GOD BE MY LABEL AND MANAGEMENT, we go meet for front. Fake people wey dey feel like small gods.”
Yemi further elaborated on the issue, claiming the station had been holding a grudge for over a year despite her attempts to resolve the matter. She wrote: “God go still give me food. You’re beefing an artist for 1 full year over your event. I didn’t go, too. I apologized and even called your oga. Him dey form oga, no even reply my text.”
She also accused Cool FM of removing her entire music catalogue in retaliation, saying: “The common decency to reach out and clear out any misunderstanding borne out of sheer carelessness on your path for a whole year, and your next move is to place an embargo on my songs? Remove my whole catalogue @CoolFMNigeria.”
The singer directly called out Serge Noujaim, the CEO of Cool FM, and another individual identified as Mr. Joseph, accusing them of gatekeeping. She wrote: “Mr. Serge and Mr. Joseph, you see this life no hard like that. WE SEE YOU… I SEE YOU. This world is a small village. My God will fight for me… Una dey form gatekeepers in 2024.”
As of the time of this report, neither Cool FM management nor Serge Noujaim has issued any response to the allegations.
Yemi Alade recently earned her first Grammy nomination in the 2025 Best African Music Performance category, solidifying her status as one of Africa’s leading voices in music.
Rising to fame with her 2014 hit single “Johnny,” Yemi has released several successful albums, including “King of Queens” (2014), “Mama Africa” (2016), “Woman of Steel” (2019), “Empress” (2020), and “Rebel Queen” (2024).
