The Kaduna State Police Command has summoned former governor Nasir El-Rufai and six leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous harm.

The invitation, contained in a letter dated September 4 and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department, Uzainu Abdullahi, directed them to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kaduna on Monday, September 8, 2025.

Those listed alongside El-Rufai include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed also known as 30, Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini popularly called Mikiya.

The summons comes in the wake of rising political tension in Kaduna after the August 16 bye-elections. Security agencies allege that statements and actions by some opposition leaders were capable of disturbing public order. The ADC leaders had recently gathered in Kaduna for a meeting, which they claimed was disrupted by armed thugs.

Reacting to the invitation, El-Rufai rejected the allegations and described the police action as unconstitutional. He said the summons amounted to an attempt to silence opposition voices in the state and vowed to challenge it in court.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that police officers sealed off the ADC’s Kaduna office ahead of a planned meeting of the party’s Northwest leadership. The ADC has since condemned the action, warning against politically motivated suppression of opposition activity.

The Kaduna Police Command has not yet issued a detailed public statement beyond the official summons. However, observers say the case underscores growing political friction between the state government and opposition parties.
