The Nigerian apex court, Supreme Court, has rejected the motion by the People’s Democratic Party and its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The party and its presidential candidate is praying that the court should accept fresh evidence to prove President Tinubu’s alleged submission of a fake certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2023 general election.
Justice John Okoro, the chairperson of the 7-member panel resolving the appeal, noted that the appellants failed to meet the 180-day timeframe stipulated by the constitution for the amendment of electoral applications.
Also, the judge ruled that the appellants were tardy and did not do due diligence in obtaining the new evidence on time.
