The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mr. Haliru Nababa as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The red chamber made the decision at its plenary session on Wednesday, after considering the report of the Senate Committee on Interior which screened Nababa chaired by Senator Kashim Shettima.
President Muhammadu Buhari had written to the Senate on February 23 asking for the confirmation of Nababa’s appointment as the NCS new boss in line with the provisions of the New Act establishing the NCoS 2019.
Nababa joined the Nigerian Prisons Service, (NPS) as it was then, on August 13, 1990 as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons. He rose through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Assistant Controller General of Corrections on January 1, 2018.
He was appointed as Deputy Controller General of Corrections, covering duties in the Directorate of Finance and Accounts on August 26, 2020.
Until his new appointment, Nababa was the Head of the Directorate of Finance and Accounts.
