Just In: Danjuma, Abubakar Behind Former EFCC Boss, Magu’s Ordeal

In a sudden twist of narrative, the powers behind the trial of for EFCC boss, Mr Ibrahim Magu, have just be unveiled in an article published in ThisDay Newspaper by Mr Segun Adeniyi the author of Power, Politics and Death and Against the Run of Play.

In the article, Adeniyi alleged that Magu must have stepped on toes of some powerful power brokers particularly, Former Defence Minister, Lt General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

It was said that the embattled former EFCC Boss, had made the cheque Danjuma issued to purchase aircraft bounced while also raiding the premises of Abubakar without the knowledge of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Adeniyi in the article wrote,” Former Defence Minister, Lt General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) was recently at the villa to see President Muhammadu Buhari. It was a visit borne out of rage. A billionaire oil tycoon, Danjuma had paid for the purchase of an aircraft. His cheque bounced! The order to withhold payment, he was told by his banker, came from Magu! From what I gathered, it took some time before the president could convince Danjuma that he knew nothing about what was clearly power mongering by a reckless public official. A few weeks before that incident, the Minna residence of former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar was raided by EFCC operatives who ’turned the house upside down’.The president also got to know only after the deed had been done.”

Aside from the report from the powerful duo, Magu was said to have had petitions against his handling of the assets of the Commissions since 2017. After Magu was invited to a Presidential Panel early last week where he was interrogated for two days before being suspended and subsequently replaced by Mohammed Umar, director of operations at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in acting chairman capacity.
