President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, a veteran broadcaster, as the substantive director-general of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
This was contained in a statement by the Minister of Information and Culture, ALai Mohammed, on Friday.
Ilelah replaces Armstrong Idachaba who held sway as acting director-general of the commission for months.
According to the minister, his appointment “is for a tenure of five years in the first instance.”
This development comes amid the recent ban of Twitter operations in the country by the Federal Government. In adherence to the directive, the NBC had ordered radio and television stations to deactivate their Twitter accounts.
