Barely weeks after his appointment as Executive Director of CIG Motors was terminated in January, Jubril Arogundade has announced the launch of Hybrid Motors Nigeria, a new automotive venture focused on hybrid, compressed natural gas (CNG), and fully electric vehicles.
Arogundade, popularly known as Jubril of Lagos, made the announcement on Saturday, February 28 which coincides with his birthday, outlining plans to build a nationwide supply and service network aimed at accelerating the adoption of cleaner mobility solutions in Nigeria.
In a statement shared via his social media handle, he said Hybrid Motors Nigeria would focus on supplying vehicles that combine petrol with either compressed natural gas (CNG) or electric power, as well as fully electric models.
He noted that the company would operate a nationwide supply and service model designed to address both availability and aftersales support challenges in Nigeria’s evolving mobility landscape.
Arogundade said the company’s ambition is to build “a unicorn brand in the automobile industry” within five years, positioning Hybrid Motors Nigeria as a bridge between growing demand for cleaner transportation and existing gaps in infrastructure, service capacity, and technical expertise.
According to him, the company’s operations will rest on seven key pillars: local assembly of hybrid and electric vehicles; nationwide distribution of petrol, hybrid and EV models; aftersales service and technical training centres; spare parts supply and distribution; deployment of EV charging systems and stations equipped with what he described as “energy intelligence”; auto asset financing; and vehicle leasing services.
He disclosed that the company’s physical rollout would be phased, with an official showroom scheduled to open in June, while plans are underway for a factory expected to commence operations next year.
Arogundade also hinted at strategic partnerships to support market entry and accelerate transformation in the sector, although he did not name specific partners.
Hybrid and alternative-fuel vehicles are attracting increasing interest in Nigeria as individuals and fleet operators seek lower operating costs, fuel flexibility and more predictable maintenance amid rising concerns about fuel prices and environmental sustainability.
Hybrid Motors Nigeria said its approach is structured to integrate vehicle supply with robust service support including training, spare parts availability and charging infrastructure to ensure that adoption is not hindered by post-purchase limitations.
