A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Drainage and Water Resources, Joe Igbokwe, has cautioned activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, against getting involved in any protest or campaign related to the detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Igbokwe urged Sowore to “run 440 away” from matters concerning the South East, arguing that the controversy surrounding Kanu’s detention is “bigger than him.”
Igbokwe alleged that Kanu’s activities and those of his followers have led to instability and violence in parts of the South East. According to him, the actions of the IPOB movement have turned the region into a “killing field,” resulting in loss of lives and hindering development efforts.
“Omoyele Sowore says he is marching to Aso Rock to protest against the detention of the Butcher of the South East called Nnamdi Kanu. I have told him as a friend to run 440. I have advised him as a friend, but he will not listen. Nnamdi Kanu shed thousands of blood in the South East in ten years,” Igbokwe wrote.
He added that he had reached out to Sowore’s younger brother, Barrister Allen Sowore, urging him to advise the activist against taking part in any protest concerning Kanu.
Describing Kanu’s agitation as “a useless business enterprise,” Igbokwe claimed it had “set the Igbo nation back by 50 years” and cost the region its “respect, honour, and dignity.”
The APC stalwart further advised Nigerians from other regions to steer clear of the issue, warning that Sowore should not “interfere in matters affecting the South East.”
“If you are from the South West, South South, North Central, North East, or North West, ignore Kanu and the reckless interloper called Sowore. This Aluta Continua adventure is no longer relevant. It is childish and senseless,” he stated.
