President Joe Biden has tested positive for Covid-19, the White House confirmed yesterday, forcing him to cancel a scheduled event in Las Vegas
In a statement, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden tested positive earlier in the day
“following his first event in Las Vegas.”
“He is vaccinated and boosted and he is experiencing mild symptoms,” Jean-Pierre said.
“He will be returning to Delaware where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time. The White House will provide regular updates on the President’s status as he continues to carry out the full duties of the office while in isolation.”
Despite being vaccinated and boosted, the 81-year-old Democrat is experiencing mild symptoms and will self-isolate in Delaware while continuing to carry out his presidential duties. Regular updates on his condition are expected.
Amid ongoing concerns about his electoral prospects, Biden has become more open to discussions about potentially withdrawing from the race, according to Democratic leaders Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Hakeem Jeffries.
Supporters and allies have been urging him to consider stepping down following his challenging debate performance three weeks ago.
Democratic Party leaders have agreed to delay the start of Biden’s nomination process by a week, prolonging the debate over the viability of his candidacy against Donald Trump in November.
