Veteran actor Jide Kosoko has been embroiled in a series of claims and accusations following his recent nomination as Oloja of Lagos elect by some members of the family after a similar process for the stool has been given to another person five years ago.
Now, it has taken a more contentious turn following claims from within the Kosoko royal family that veteran actor Jide Kosoko lacks the required paternal lineage to legitimately lay claim to the title.
Adeyinka RickRoss Kosoko, a member of the Kosoko family has alleged that Jide Kosoko is only related to the royal house through his maternal line and does not descend from the Kosoko lineage on his father’s side.
In a strongly worded public comment under a post made by a Facebook user, Kayode Badmus, the family member described the nomination as “fraudulent and illegitimate,” insisting that royal succession within the Kosoko family must be traced through paternal ancestry.
According to the claim, maternal descent alone does not confer eligibility for the Oloja title.
The member further questioned Jide Kosoko’s use of the Kosoko surname, alleging that he adopted his mother’s maiden name rather than retaining his father’s surname.
“How does one abandon his father’s surname for his mother’s maiden name and still claim a royal title?” the comment read, adding that the issue of lineage would eventually be exposed.
The allegation has intensified an already heated internal dispute within the Kosoko family, where divisions have emerged over succession rules, historical customs, and the legitimacy of recent nominations.
The unfolding dispute continues to draw public attention, reflecting broader tensions around tradition and authority in the leadership structures of Lagos’ historic royal families.
