Members of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) on Saturday carried out Quality Health and Well-being activities in Galadimawa Village, Galadimawa District, Abuja. The medical outreach was in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.
The medical exercise was carried out in partnership with Sam Empowerment Foundation organised Malaria testing, HIV Testing, Counseling and Deworming Exercise.
The programme also involved giving Vitamin A Supplement to children, BP Testing and General Medical Counseling
According to JCI Abuja Unity LOM, the outreach was organised to improve the quality of health of residents in the community, reduce mortality rates from common and treatable diseases, prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and encourage regular medical checkups amongst residents.
Speaking with BlackBox Nigeria, the Executive Vice President of JCI Abuja Unity, Mrs Niniola Grace, said though the target of the outreach was to cover 1000 residents, the turnout was low and only about 300 were covered.
“The turnout in my estimation is low, we have more children than adults,” she said
She noted further that no case of HIV positive was record and what she noticed to be prevalent in the community is malaria and worm infections.
A major the high point of the outreach was the distribution of clothes to members of the community. Many of the beneficiaries thanked JCI Abuja Unity for the selfless giveaways.
