IWD: Nigerian Youth Parliament partners Ifako Ijaiye LG to celebrate young girls in Lagos

The Nigerian Youth Parliament has partenered with the leadership of Ifako ljaiye Local Government in Lagos State to celebrate secondary school girls in this year’s commemoration of the International Women’s Day.

The event which was tagged Safepad Project and supported by C.H.A.N.C.E Network was held at three government-owned secondary schools — Somori Comprehensive High School and Ifako Ijaiye High and Iju Grammar School on Monday, March 28.

Speaking at the program, the Executive Chairman of Ifako ljaiye Local Government, Hon Prince Usman Hamzat harped on the importance of the girl child in the development of any nation, while reiterating his administration’s commitment to promoting education among young girls.

The council boss further commended the Nigerian Youth Parliament for the laudable initiative which he described as a step in the right direction in creating opportunities for young women to thrive.

In her submissions, the Speaker of the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Rt Hon (Dr) Azeezat Yishawu said the Safepad Project was in line with the Parliament’s resolve to champion SDG four which is Quality Education, noting that the project was simultaneously held in 20 different states of the federation.

She stated that young women have a pivotal role to play in building a better nation for all, while stressing the need for all stakeholders to invest in educating and empowering the girl child.

The program also featured the distribution of special packs which contained sanitary pads, soaps, body rolls and pens to the school girls.
