The race to who succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 is getting more interesting as the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu finally broke his silence about his rumoured presidential ambition.
Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, has been in the news in recent times, sparking up a major conversation as one of the major contenders for the nation’s top seat ahead of the next general polls. Though the renowned politician had declined to comments on the matter, there have been several calls by his loyalists, asking him to throw his hat in the ring.
It appears the ‘Lion of Bourdillon’ has finally hearkened to the calls. Speaking with State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, on Monday afternoon, Tinubu revealed that he has officially informed the president of his ambition to succeed him in 2023.
Report has it that the former governor attended the meeting alone, without the company of any principal member of the party.
This development brings to an end months of speculations over Tinubu’s ambition, and to a large extent, offers a sense of direction to the eventual events that would trail the APC presidential primaries and the 2023 polls.
