Nigeria’s Israel Adesanya put up a stellar performance to successfully defend his middleweight title at UFC 276 on Sunday morning.
The ‘Last Stylebender’ outclassed his American challenger, Jared Cannonier at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Though Cannonier came on strong and determined throughout the fight, he could not get past the Nigerian’s striking and takedown defence.
Adesanya secured a well-deserved unanimous decision victory (49–46, 49–46, 50–45) to retain his title after five rounds.
The win is his twelfth consecutive victory as a middleweight in the UFC, only one behind the record set by UFC legend Anderson Silva, as the Nigerian continues to cement his legacy as one of the greatest to ever step foot in the Octagon.
With 23 record wins and a single career defeat, the 32-year-old expressed the desire to fight his old foe Alex Pereira next.
