IPOB Leader, Kanu Fulfills ‘Mighty’ Bail Conditions, Leaves Kuje Prison

Detained leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu was freed on Friday,April 28th after being in detention since 2015 when he was arrested. His release his coming days after it was speculated that the leader had rejected the bail conditions stating that his other incarcerated members were denied bail.

According to a report by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the three sureties, including the Jewish leader were present at the Court to sign Kanu’s bail bond.

A Jewish surety was earlier in the week speculated to be an almost impossible mission for the seccescionist to meet after the ruling of Justice Binta Nyako who listed him to sign for Kanu.

Suprisingly, High Chief Priest Immanuu-El Shalom, a Jewish leader joined Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Chairman of SOuth East Senate Caucus) and Tochukwu Uchendu, a Chartered Accountant to sign the bail bond.

Justice Nyako also instructed that all the sureties to deposit a sum of N100m each payable to the Court after she granted Kanu bail on health grounds.

Part of the bail conditions state that he must not be seen in a group of more than 10 people, not participate in any protest, rally, grant interviews and present himself to the Court any time he his called upon.

Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of London-based Radio Biafra was arrested in Lagos on October 14th, 2015 after he was charged with criminal conspiracy, intimidation and belonging to an unlawful society.

He has since pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was granted conditional release by Chief Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja HIgh Court on Tuesday.

Kanu was received at the Court premises on Friday by his Attorney, Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor and some close relatives who were happy to see him free after a long while.
