Internet of Things! Google Introduces Self-Driving Bicycles

Prior to this, one won’t be wrong to think the social media and other modern communication tools available at a fingertip is the height to what there is to the internet. But with the introduction of the Google Self-Driving Bike, that narrative is set to change as the internet can now do more than interconnecting networks.

The Google Self- Driving Bike takes a similar pattern from self-driving cars with sales commencing in the Netherlands due to its high population of bikers and has added a new dimension to biking.

According to the Director Google Netherlands, Pim van der Feltz the invention is aimed at making biking safer, smarter and easier by applying self-driving technology to bikes.

Mathew Feigal, the Bike Engineer of Google Netherlands explained that the Google Self-Driving Bike is built to be sensitive to the environment and adds features that enable user to request the bike to pick them up via a mobile app and a pedal structured for the comfort of the biker.

“We programmed the bikes to figure out where it is, what Is around it, what will happen next and what it should do. It was adapted from driving cars. It has two additional features; first you can request the bike to pick you up where ever you are and a developed comfort mode adjusting the pedals to a perfect resting position.”

On the benefit of the new invention, the Deputy Mayor of Amstadam, Kajsa Ollongren, asserts that the technology could boost the economy because people are enabled to work on the bicycle just like in cars.

The invention is acclaimed by the Cyclists’ Union of Netherlands the biggest invention since the invention of bicycle itself.
