International Esports body welcomes 108th member, LSEA as IFERS partners Lagos

The Lagos State Esports Association (LSEA) has formally joined the International Esports Federation (IESF) as its 108th member.

The IESF, on Tuesday, announced the development via their official Instagram page. They shared a picture showing the Nigerian flag with the caption, “Welcome Nigeria! 108th Member nation – @esportslagos. We are happy and pleased to welcome Lagos State Esport Association in the IESF’s Family!”

Established in 2008, the South Korea-based global organisation’s mission is to have electronic sports recognized as a legitimate sport.

The LSEA is a non-profit, full-fledged sports association established by the Lagos State Government under the auspices of the Lagos State Sports Commission with the goal of creating and sustaining a thriving esports and gaming ecosystem in Lagos State and Nigeria.

In a related development, the LSEA recently entered into a strategic partnership with the Institute for Education, Research and Scholarships (IFERS) — a California-based nonprofit public charity organisation dedicated to improving society by conducting scientific and social research.

The partnership came ahead of the formal commencement of the IFERS University of Esports in January 2022, which affords the youth of Lagos and Nigeria the opportunity to be educated in a world class environment and taught by prominent and renowned computer scientist, educator and futurist, Prof. Netwon Lee who is an author and administrator in the field of education and technology commercialization.
