Influenza A Virus: China reports human case of bird flu, should the world be afraid yet again?

With the world still being ravaged by the deadly coronavirus virus which has claimed millions of lives across the globe, there seem to be yet another scare as China has reported a fresh case of avian Influenza otherwise known as bird flu.

What has however made many begin to panic is that this time around, rather than the regular birds known to be affected by the disease, a human has been affected.

The first human case of H10N3 has been recorded in the eastern China. Although Chinese authorities claim the spread in humans is not large scale, many are worried this might just be another scare following the wide spread of Covid-19 which started in the Wuhan province of the Asian nation.
An unnamed man whose age is said to be 41 years is reported as the first case of H10N3 strain of bird flu and observers aren’t taking it lightly, a fear which is understandable considering the battles with Covid-19.

While Chinese National Health Commission (NHC) have revealed the “infection is an accidental cross-species transmission,” and that “the risk of large-scale transmission is low,” many are still worried because this is the first case of the infection in a human.

The unnamed man who is a resident of Zhenjiang is reported to have been hospitalized on April 28 but was diagnosed of H10N3 on May 28 exactly one month later.

Although his condition is reported to be stable and might be discharged soon, this has done little to allay the fears of observers who are hoping this wouldn’t lead to another pandemic.
